An IOCL apprentice seat is one of the easiest ways to get a foot inside Indian Oil Corporation Limited. There's no written exam, no application fee, and you're paid a monthly stipend for (usually) a year of hands-on training at a refinery, pipeline station, or marketing office. The catch? Seats open region by region, at different times of the year, and each notice has its own deadline. This guide puts every 2026 IOCL apprentice drive in one place: who can apply, how the merit list works, how much you'll earn, and how to apply on the NAPS and NATS portals.

Two notices are open right now. Bongaigaon Refinery has extended its last date to 27 October 2026 (5 PM) through a corrigendum, so if you hold a B.Sc. (Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry) or an Instrumentation diploma, there's still time. The Marketing Division, Western Region notice is open until 4 November 2026.

IOCL takes three kinds of apprentices. Which one you apply for depends on your highest qualification, and which portal you register on depends on the type.
Where you'll train also differs. A refinery posting means plant operations and maintenance. The pipelines division places you at pumping and receiving stations along its pipeline network. A marketing division seat usually means a terminal, depot, LPG bottling plant or regional office.
Here is the region-wise vacancy for the two marketing notices with full state breakdowns, plus the 2026 refinery round.

All seat numbers are tentative; IOCL can change them. Category-wise splits (UR, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwBD) are in each notification PDF.
The rules below are common to the 2026 notices. Always check your own unit's PDF, because qualifying windows and cut-off dates differ.
Educational qualification
Who is not eligible
PwBD candidates: In the Western and Northern Region notices, PwBD candidates can apply only for the Graduate and Data Entry Operator codes (112–114), not for Technician or Trade (ITI) seats. The Bongaigaon (September) notice opens only Code 107 to them. Candidates with multiple disabilities are not considered because of the hazardous work environment.
Age limit
Table: IOCL apprentice age limit and relaxation
| Category | Age range |
|---|---|
| General / EWS | 18–24 years |
| OBC (NCL) | Up to 27 years (3 years' relaxation) |
| SC / ST | Up to 29 years (5 years' relaxation) |
| PwBD (General) | Up to 34 years (10 years' relaxation) |
| PwBD + OBC (NCL) | Up to 37 years (13 years' relaxation) |
| PwBD + SC / ST | Up to 39 years (15 years' relaxation) |
Age is counted on the cut-off date in each notice: 30 September 2026 for the Western Region and Bongaigaon (September) notices, and 31 August 2026 for the Northern Region notice. The PwBD ceilings above are from the Western Region notice; check your own unit's notice for its exact limits.
Applying is free, but it's a two-portal system, and most rejections come from picking the wrong one.
| If you are a… | Register on | Portal |
|---|---|---|
| Trade apprentice (ITI, Data Entry Operator, and refinery trades like Attendant Operator or Accountant) | NAPS | apprenticeshipindia.gov.in |
| Technician apprentice (diploma) or Graduate apprentice | NATS | nats.education.gov.in |
Steps to apply
Pipelines Division candidates must also register on IOCL's pipelines portal, plapps.indianoilpipelines.in, using the same email and mobile number as on NAPS/NATS. The January 2026 pipelines notice also sent some trade seats (Assistant-HR, Accountant) through NATS rather than NAPS, so always follow the portal your own notice names.
PreparEdge tip: Register on NAPS or NATS now, even if your region hasn't opened. Portal profiles can take a few days to be verified, and deadlines don't wait.
IOCL apprentice selection is entirely merit-based. Here's how it works in the 2026 notices:
IOCL's notices don't print a rupee figure. They say the stipend is "as prescribed under the Apprentices Act" and its Rules. Those rules were revised by the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Rules, 2025 (G.S.R. 610(E)), effective 11 September 2025, which raised the minimum stipends.
Table: Minimum monthly stipend for IOCL apprentices (Apprenticeship Rules, as amended in 2025)
| Your qualification | Typical IOCL seat | Minimum stipend per month |
|---|---|---|
| Class 12 pass | Data Entry Operator | ₹9,600 |
| ITI (National / State certificate) | Trade Apprentice, e.g. Fitter, Electrician | ₹9,600 |
| Diploma in engineering | Technician Apprentice | ₹10,900 |
| Graduate/degree holder | Graduate Apprentice; degree-based refinery trades | ₹12,300 |
The Northern Region notice adds ₹2,500 a month for miscellaneous expenses on top of the statutory stipend. For graduate and technician apprentices, part of the stipend is paid by the Board of Apprenticeship Training (BOAT) straight into your Aadhaar-seeded bank account through DBT. Trade apprentices are paid in full by IOCL.
People often search for "IOCL apprentice salary", but legally it's a stipend, not a salary. Apprentices aren't employees, so there's no pay scale, DA, or HRA.
The Pipelines notice states plainly that apprentices get no other benefits such as accommodation, HRA, conveyance or medical facilities. What lands in your account is the stipend (plus any allowance your unit pays). The figures above are the legal minimums, so check your offer letter for your exact rate. For what permanent IOCL employees earn, see our IOCL salary guide.
Since there's no written exam, there's no admit card in any of the 2026 IOCL apprentice notices we checked. Your "result" comes in stages:
If you're also preparing for an IOCL CBT, PreparEdge’s IOCL admit card guide explains how call letters work for the Executive, JE, and Non-Executive exams.
Not automatically, and it's better to know that before you join. Since the 2014 amendment, Section 22 of the Apprentices Act, 1961 only requires each employer to frame its own policy for recruiting apprentices who complete training with it. It doesn't oblige the employer to hire them, and courts have held that a trained apprentice has no automatic right to a job.
The permanent route is open recruitment. Read our IOCL recruitment guide for every current IOCL drive.
It runs region by region through the year. The Western Region Marketing notice (335 seats) is open until 4 November 2026, and the Bongaigaon Refinery notice (58 seats) has been extended to 27 October 2026. The 2026 refinery, Northern Region, and Pipelines rounds are closed.
Candidates aged 18–24 (with relaxation for reserved categories) who hold an ITI, a 3-year engineering diploma, a degree, or Class 12 for Data Entry Operator seats. The course must be regular and full-time, with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST/PwBD reserved seats), as the notice sets a minimum. B.E./B. Tech, MBA, MCA, CA, and LLB holders are not eligible.
On merit, using the percentage of marks in your qualifying exam. There's no written test or interview. Shortlisted candidates go through document verification and a medical fitness test before getting an offer of engagement.
At least the minimum set under the Apprenticeship Rules (as amended in 2025): ₹9,600 a month for ITI and Class 12 seats, ₹10,900 for diploma holders and ₹12,300 for graduates. Some units pay extra.
No, not automatically. The Apprentices Act only asks IOCL to have a policy on recruiting trained apprentices; it doesn't guarantee you a job. The experience and certificate help when you apply for IOCL's open recruitment drives, such as non-executive posts.
